Last week in math, students completed a quiz on comparing and finding equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting fractions. Quizzes were returned today and discussed in class. We will continue to review these concepts during our warm-up and extra ScootPad practice will be assigned to those students that did not pass; if your student would like to retest, please have them schedule a time with me before school. Extra As we are so close to the end of the year, class time must be focused on remaining standards and test prep – retests will now be given before school or during lunch. This week, students will begin learning about decimals.
Recently, students have been working on several large projects that will count for several grades. In reading, students have been researching Hoover Dam and Boom Towns; students created a project to present their learning that will count as a social studies, reading, writing, and language grade as it covers so many standards across the subjects. Students received their grades for this project today as well as written feedback. Students are currently working on writing an opinion piece based on the research they collected about Hoover Dam or Boom Towns. This writing piece will count as a writing, reading, social studies, and language grade. Please ask your student what their opinion is on their topic. In science, students are working on understanding the structures of life. Students recently completed a cell project – please ask your child to share their experience with you. SBAC, our end of the year assessment, has officially been called off due to technical difficulties. However, to measure student growth and achievement, students will still complete an end of the year assessment – the Discovery Education Assessment. Students have taken this test twice before in fourth grade (once at the beginning of the year and again at the midyear point). 4th graders will take the reading and math portion of this test the week of May 18th. Please be sure your child is attendance every day until then as new standards are still being taught. ***There will be a mandatory Carson City meeting held next Tuesday, May 5th from 5:30 to 6:30. All parents of those students attending the trip MUST attend. During this meeting, parents will fill out necessary travel forms, we will make copies of IDs and insurance cards (if you have one), and itineraries, groups, and rooming information will be passed out. |
